Chunchi Waterfalls

After a long week of mundane routine work, sometimes all you need is a quick escape into nature—without breaking too much of a sweat. Hidden deep within the Kanakapura forest lies one of nature’s best-kept secrets, a spot carefully guarded by the locals. Thanks to social media daredevils attempting life-threatening stunts for that ‘perfect’ picture, access is controlled—but don’t worry, I’m here to live long enough to experience many more adventures!

So, let’s talk about the place. Roughly 80 km from Bangalore’s cityscape, the ride takes you away from the usual highways and straight into the dense greens of Kanakapura. Don’t expect to spot much wildlife (except for fellow humans on their own mini-adventures), but a short two-hour ride lands you at the parking lot, where a few stalls offer quick refreshments before you start the 2 km walk to the waterfalls.

Local guides are around to help you find your way and, more importantly, ensure you don’t wander too far—because let’s be honest, disappearing into a waterfall isn’t exactly the best way to end a trip! But once you find the right quiet spot, the experience is pure magic. The sound of water gushing over the rocks, the misty air, and the serene surroundings create the perfect escape from city life.

If you’re a trekking enthusiast with energy to spare, there’s plenty more to explore around. I also met Muthuraj, a warm and welcoming local who takes pride in managing this little paradise for visitors seeking peace and adventure.

A word of caution—carry enough water, and be extra careful near the waterfall. One wrong step and, well… let’s just say you’d rather stay on solid ground! 😄

Another perfect location checked off around Bangalore!
